Resolve a Complaint or Dispute with a Dentist Through the 9th District Dental Society Peer Review Process
Even in the best dentist-patient relationships, problems may occasionally arise. If you have a concern about your dental treatment, we recommend discussing it directly with your dentist first. Often, open communication can resolve the issue. If you are still not satisfied, the 9th District Dental Society offers a formal dispute resolution process known as Peer Review to help resolve disagreements about dental treatment.
What is Peer Review?
The Peer Review system is designed to resolve disputes that may occur during the delivery of dental services. It provides an impartial, timely, and objective review based on the Texas Dental Association’s guidelines for addressing disputes between patients and dental care providers.
The Peer Review process is not a court and does not involve any disciplinary action. Instead, it offers an alternative dispute resolution mechanism at no cost to either party. Through mediation, the dental profession itself reviews and attempts to resolve treatment issues and misunderstandings.
Key Features of Peer Review:
- Voluntary Participation: Participation in Peer Review is voluntary for both parties, and the decisions are advisory.
- Confidentiality: The decisions and information gathered during the Peer Review process are confidential to the extent allowed by law.
- No Cost: There is no cost to either party for participating in the Peer Review process.
Please note that disputes regarding dental treatment that occurred more than one year ago are not eligible for Peer Review.
