SUMMARY OF SEPTEMBER MEETING:
The regular meeting of the Ninth District Dental Society was held on September 9 at Delta Blues Restaurant in
Webster. The meeting was called to order by Dr. Gilberto Garcia. He welcomed 25 members and 1 guest.
He requested that members sign in with a current email address to ensure timely communication.
The new CE attendance is now being used, and it will be distributed at the end of the meetings.
Volunteers are needed to help with St. Vincent’s Clinic in Galveston. The clinic is designed to help low
socioeconomic patients who are in pain. Extractions are the primary treatment done there. Dr. Garcia is the
primary contact for anyone interested in volunteering. A work calendar was available for members.
The NDDS Summer Clinic will be held on June 5, 2026, at the South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference
Center in League City.
The regular NDDS meetings will be held on November 4, 2025, January 6, 2026, March 3, 2026, and May 12,
2026.
The 2025-2026 NDDS Budget was presented for approval by the Secretary-Treasurer Dr. Ann Seelbach. Printed
copies were available. Discussion followed regarding the existing deficit and ways to correct it during the
upcoming year. Suggestions from the floor were overwhelmingly in favor of a Ninth District dues increase. Dr.
Glen Miller moved to approve the budget, there was a second, and the motion passed by acclamation.
Dr. Garcia made a motion to increase the dues by $50 annually, changing from $105 to $155. During the
discussion it was noted that the NDDS dues are significantly lower than other local societies. The dues increase
will be voted on at the November meeting. Dr. Seelbach will ask the TDA for an extension to provide the
updated dues after the vote.
Dr. Ramzi Saman received a plaque and thanks for serving as the 2024-2025 NDDS President.
Dr. Dillon introduced the speaker. Dr. Nathan Pettit spoke on statistics regarding TMJD patients, recognizing
factors that contribute to chronic pain, anatomy and physiology of orofacial pain, and ways to train patients to
self-regulate pain.
NDDS NEWS:
The TDA did not approve a time extension for the dues increase. Dr. Garcia called an emergency Executive
Board meeting on September 30 to vote on the dues increase. The notice was sent to all NDDS members.
The members who attended voted in favor of the dues increase, as did the members who sent in their proxies.
