We encourage all members to get involved in the 9th District Dental Society by joining one of our many committees. Volunteering on a committee is a rewarding way to contribute to the growth and success of our society while connecting with fellow dental professionals. Standing Committees
Communications Committee
This committee monitors and analyzes all 9th District Dental Society electronic and web-based communications. It promotes our programs through web, email, the society journal, the member newsletter, and social media. The committee also plans initiatives to engage members in fun activities throughout the year.
Commitment: Up to 4 meetings per year.
Constitution and Bylaws
This committee reviews and recommends amendments to the Society’s Constitution, Bylaws, and Manual of Operational Procedures when directed by the Board of Directors.
Commitment: As needed.
Dental Health Committee
This committee raises public awareness about oral health and promotes the profession through school alliances and community programs. Key events include Back to School initiatives, Veterans Smile service, and National Children’s Dental Health Month projects.
Commitment: Up to 4 meetings per year, plus participation in special outreach projects and events.
Diversity & Inclusion Committee
This committee promotes cultural awareness and increases participation from diverse dentists within the society.
Commitment: 3 meetings per year, plus participation in educational and social events.
Legislative Action Committee (LAC)
The LAC monitors legislation at the state and national levels, advocating for the dental profession. It also encourages contributions to state and national political action committees (PACs).
Commitment: 2 meetings per year, plus participation in legislative events and advocacy activities.
Membership Committee
This committee focuses on recruiting and retaining members, particularly dentists within 10 years of graduation. The committee also promotes society programs, organizes study clubs and socials, and assists with new member orientation.
Commitment: 4 meetings per year, plus involvement in student functions and recruitment activities.
Programs & Sponsorship Committee
This committee plans society meetings, continuing education programs, and events. It also works with the Star of the South Council to secure partnerships and sponsorships for programs.
Commitment: Up to 6 meetings per year.
Other Committees
Journal Editorial Advisory Board
This board assists the Editor in coordinating content for the society’s journal.
Commitment: No meetings; contribute or review articles as needed.
Scholarship Committee
This committee manages the UTSD DS3 Dental Student Scholarship, updating criteria and reviewing applications to select the annual recipient.
Commitment: 3-4 meetings per year.
Scientific Program Committee
This committee selects speakers and develops program content for continuing education events and the Star of the South Dental Meeting.
Commitment: Up to 4 meetings per year.
Membership Contact Task Force
Members of this task force reach out to society members and non-members for key outreach initiatives, such as dues renewal and member recruitment efforts.
Commitment: Varies based on need.
