Advocacy
At the 9th District Dental Society, we are dedicated to being the voice of dentistry in our region. We advocate for dental professionals and patients alike by working with state and local lawmakers to ensure that oral health legislation protects both practice and care. Recent advocacy efforts have successfully defended against unfair insurance practices, enhanced patient safety protocols, improved the dental health infrastructure, and instituted safeguards for Medicaid providers subject to investigations. Our continued commitment is to champion the interests of dental professionals while promoting the highest standards of care for our community.
Peer Review
The Peer Review Committee at the 9th District Dental Society is dedicated to resolving disputes between patients, dentists, and third parties like insurance companies. The committee reviews cases related to the quality of treatment, appropriateness of care, and provides advisory opinions regarding fees. Acting impartially, the committee ensures fairness for all parties involved—patients, dental professionals, and insurers.
In compliance with State Board Rule 108.3, all Texas dentists are required to display signage notifying patients that complaints about dental services can be directed to the State Board. We also offer a voluntary Peer Review Complaint Sign to be posted alongside the state-required notice.
The Judicial Committee of the Society supports maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards. The committee mediates dentist-to-dentist complaints and reviews patient-related issues referred by the Peer Review Committee. Additionally, the committee oversees membership applications, distributes the TDA Code of Ethics, and promotes ethics education for dental students.
